Carob powder, or locust bean gum, is an increasingly popular replacement for bitter cocoa. Its taste is no different from traditional chocolate, but it is more intense. Therefore, we should remember to use half portion of the carob in dishes compared to cocoa. In addition to its flavour, it has excellent health-promoting properties. It is a good source of vitamin E and gallic acid – powerful antioxidants that help fight the stressors of everyday life. However, the most important thing is safety of carob consumption. First of all, it does not contain allergens included in cocoa. Secondly, it has no caffeine or theobromine, which is why it is suitable for children. Thirdly, it is free from biogenic amines present in cocoa, which are largely responsible for migraines.

Carob powder can replace cocoa in baked products, puddings or even home-made chocolates. It contains 60% less calories than cocoa and consists of 80% proteins. Are you on a reduction diet?
